Alexander Technique Ann Arbor (ATAA) is an AmSAT-certified school where you can study to become a teacher of the Alexander Technique. You will see humans in motion and at rest in a new way, and become an ever more skillful observer of yourself. You will learn how to change your own habits of thinking and moving, while learning to guide others through this change process.

The Alexander Technique is a unique and sophisticated form of kinesthetic and neuro-muscular re-education. It is often described as a special kind of health education. Trainees learn to guide others through a process that can improve function in daily activities as well as to enhance performance skills.

During the 3-4 years of training, students gain an understanding of F.M. Alexander’s concepts and principles, for example:

  • How we think about movement determines how we organize ourselves to carry out any activity.
  • The mind/body system is a working unity and must be treated as a whole.
  • Freeing up the entire respiratory system is the foundation of healthy vocal function.
